what is the consciousness control?

i'm considering that ability to control consciousness is achieved via different set of *tools*: religion, meditation, even simple astrological predictions. i observed some of my friends and also i've read their daily horoscopes, by comparing those observations i've realized that it does not matter what horoscope says, what's matter that it gives you some perceptual adjustment that supposely influence behavior...
